The 'No. 1 Sofa' was the first of many sofa series designed by the popular Børge Mogensen for Fredericia Furniture. The sofa was the result of a budding collaboration between Mogensen himself and Fredericia Furniture's new director in 1955, Andreas Graversen. He reformed Fredericia's image and focused exclusively on Mogensen's creations, which shortly afterwards secured Fredericia Furniture the status it still enjoys today. In the 'No. 1' sofa, Børge Mogensen combined some of his classic signature features with contemporary trends that made the sofa popular in its design period, but over time it has achieved a timeless status that can be furnished across homes and generations.
A unique feature of the 'No. 1' sofa is its split construction. For the first time, Mogensen experiments with the combination of a tightly upholstered body and soft loose-fitting cushions. The composition also represents some of Mogensen's signature features, where each component is clear in its function and transparent in its design. The cushions can be easily removed from the sofa, making it effortless to clean. Simple buttons add an elegant look that reflects the 50s zeitgeist without making the sofa outdated. On the other hand, the sofa's shell, with its stem lines, helps add a simple, almost minimalist look over the furniture that is also appropriate for the modern age. The frame, made of wood, adds an organic element and adds structure through the materials, which is another characteristic of Mogensen's design.
'No. 1 Sofa' is available in a wide range of fabrics in different colours and wood types with different treatments. If you would like to design your own 'No. 1' sofa, please feel free to contact us by email or phone.

- For cleaning lacquered wood, a mild solution of soap flakes or all-purpose cleaner is recommended. Then polish with a dry soft cloth. Never leave liquids on lacquered wood surfaces as this may cause the lacquer to delaminate.
- When cleaning soaped and untreated a soft cloth, heavily wrung in a mild solution of soap flakes. Always wipe in the grain direction of the wood. Never use water on untreated wood surfaces if it can be avoided.
- When cleaning oiled wood, a mild solution of soap flakes or a cleaner for oil-treated wood surfaces is recommended. New oil must then be added to prevent the wood from drying out.
- Avoid letting textiles and leather come into contact with liquids or oils. If staining occurs, professional cleaning is recommended. When cleaning frames, use a damp cloth without harsh chemicals.
