The 'Søborg' series marks a moment in the history of Danish furniture architecture, when design and modern techniques culminate and open up new dimensions of carpentry. The chair is the result of a trip to MoMa's international design competition 'Low-Cost Furniture' in 1948, where designer Børge Mogensen was introduced to moulded veneer. In 1950, the Søborg chair became a product of this new technology, and in 1952 Mogensen further developed the chair with a version featuring a metal frame. Although metal as a material rarely makes its way into Børge Mogensen's furniture, he manages to work the metal in the spirit of carpentry, so that the metal achieves an organic form. Soft shapes interact with a nonchalant expression that, depending on the angle of the viewer, is slender or full in its appearance. With well-considered proportions that ensure a comfortable seating experience, the 'Søborg' chairs are a classic in both the modern and traditional home.
- Base in black lacquered or chrome treated steel with seat and back in moulded plywood. Supplied with standard plastic slip-ons, with option to purchase felt slip-ons.
- When cleaning oiled wood, a mild solution of soap flakes or a cleaner for oiled wood surfaces is recommended. New oil must then be added to prevent the wood from drying out.
- For cleaning varnished wood, a mild solution of soap flakes or all-purpose cleaner is recommended. Then polish with a dry soft cloth. Never leave liquids on lacquered wood surfaces as this may cause the lacquer to delaminate.
- Original design by Børge Mogensen, produced by Fredericia Furniture (1952)
