JEWELLERY CARE GUIDE
Jewellery is a big part of the ByFlous fashion universe, and for many, jewellery is a way to express their personality. At ByFlou you'll find jewellery that suits every personality, from the raw and masculine styles to the elegant and feminine designs. Whatever jewellery you're into, it needs a loving hand every now and then. To ensure your jewellery stays beautiful for years to come, here's a guide on how to clean and care for your jewellery.
Silver and gold-plated jewellery care
Most jewellery in the ByFlou assortment is made of either sterling silver (925) or 18-carat gold-plated sterling silver. At the same time, the majority of our jewellery is 100% nickel-free and therefore hypoallergenic. You can see under each individual piece of jewellery which materials the jewellery is made of.
It's inevitable that your jewellery will show signs of wear and tear over the years. Silver will oxidise over time and gold-plated jewellery will lose some of its golden colour. Your pH level can contribute to accelerating these processes and it is therefore very individual how quickly your jewellery wears. However, there are many ways to prevent the wearing process and give your jewellery a fresh look.
The damage we inflict on jewellery in everyday life is the most damaging. With these simple steps, you can minimise this unnecessary damage to your jewellery:
- » In general, you should always avoid liquids and moisture while wearing your jewellery. Therefore, we recommend that you take off your jewellery when bathing, playing sports, sleeping and washing your hands.
- » Strong chemicals can damage the surface, so avoid cleaning with your jewellery and don't let your jewellery come into too much contact with perfumes, oils, lotions and makeup.
- » Put your jewellery on as the last thing before you walk out the door to avoid unnecessary wear and tear on your beloved jewellery.

If you are looking for an easy and inexpensive way to clean your jewellery at home, the following guide can help you:
- 1. Mix mild and neutral detergent with lukewarm water.
- 2. Let the jewellery soak in the water for up to 5 minutes.
- 3. Use a soft microfiber cloth to remove dirt and dark stains.
- 4. Clean the jewellery in the water solution and then let them air dry on a dry cloth.
Pearl jewellery care
Pearls have always been a popular material to use for jewellery, and at ByFlou you will find a large selection of beautiful pearl jewellery.
Pearls are an organic material and are particularly vulnerable to liquid, moisture and chemicals. Therefore, you should never use soap, detergent or chemicals to clean your pearls. This can leave the beads with a dull, lifeless finish that can be hard to restore.
The best way to keep your pearls fresh and shiny is to wear them as often as possible. Grease and oil from the skin help to keep the pearls shiny, so leaving them in the drawer can be harmful to your pearls. If dirt appears on your pearl jewellery, a little warm water and a microfiber cloth can be used to freshen up the pearls.
Jewellery storage
- Boxes and bags
Most jewellery comes in a box or an airtight bag, which is by far the easiest and cheapest way to store your jewellery. That way they avoid both direct sunlight and moisture. - Acrylic boxes
An acrylic or plexiglass box protects the jewellery, as they are often completely airtight, and you can show off your beautiful jewellery at the same time. - Jewellery boxes
A jewellery box or jewellery bag is a good investment if you want to keep your jewellery looking good. They allow you to easily separate each piece of jewellery, keep them out of direct sunlight and are handy when you need to take your jewellery on the move. - Pearl jewellery
Your pearl jewellery should preferably be stored separately from your gold and silver jewellery. Because pearls are an organic material, it's best to store them where they can get plenty of air so they don't get dull.
