Over the years, Japanese Keiji Takeuchi has worked across borders and cultures in his development as a designer. 'Pal Side Table' in particular draws threads from Japanese minimalism, which often goes hand in hand with Scandinavian design when it comes to functionality and simple designs. For Takeuchi, simplicity, more than anything else, is the focus and unnecessary details that have no functionality are always sorted out. Yet he describes his furniture as 'living objects' that both make room for life in the home through its functionality, but also add a unique atmosphere in terms of design that brings life to the space.

The tables are created in simple but exclusive materials, executed with world-class carpentry hs Fredericia Furniture. The flat table top is made of the best quality wood, oiled and lacquered in beautiful traditional colours that allow the table to show the patina it acquires with the years. The tabletop rests on a slender frame with a flat foot that adds stability to the elegant design. Finished in either black powder-coated steel or brushed steel, it creates a contrast between the organic wood and the cool frame that characterises much contemporary design. The understated design makes the furniture flexible and easy to integrate into the decor, whatever the size of the room.

• Frame in powder-coated or brushed stainless steel. Table top in black lacquered oak, light oiled oak or oiled walnut.
• For cleaning lacquered wood, a mild solution of soap flakes or all-purpose cleaner is recommended. Then polish with a dry soft cloth. Never leave liquids on lacquered wood surfaces as this may cause the lacquer to delaminate.
• When cleaning oiled wood, a mild solution of soap flakes or a cleaner for oil-treated wood surfaces is recommended. New oil must then be added to prevent the wood from drying out.
• When cleaning steel, a dry cloth or a cloth heavily wrung in a mild soap solution is recommended. Then polish with a dry soft cloth. Stubborn stains should be removed with spirit. Never use solvents, as these can damage the paintwork.
