Børge Mogensen's 'Library Table', first designed in 1958, was one of Mogensen's growing portfolio of unique and functional tables that over time became timeless classics both nationally and internationally. Mogensen's tables were all strongly characterised by his design philosophy of furniture functionality, construction transparency and exquisite quality in terms of good materials. The construction of the furniture in particular is the focus of the 'Library Table' which draws inspiration from the English 'Gateleg Tables' that have roots back to the Baroque. Here the concept has been modernised and shaped according to Mogensen's own principles, giving the table a design that is both sober and emblematic.
'BM71' plays with visual expression and functionality in one piece of furniture. The table top possesses a completely simplified design, leaving all the focus to the table legs. When assembled, the table achieves an enclosed, almost cubist design, with the tabletops embracing the table from the sides. The table tops can then be individually folded out to each side via the folding table legs. Not only does the table space expand but the table legs create a unique triangular zigzag pattern that is a unique signature of the design.
- Table legs made of solid wood with veneer table top. Available as lacquered or oiled oak.
- When cleaning oiled wood, a mild solution of soap flakes or a cleaner for oil-treated wood surfaces is recommended. New oil must then be added to prevent the wood from drying out.
- For cleaning varnished wood, a mild solution of soap flakes or all-purpose cleaner is recommended. Then polish with a dry soft cloth. Never leave liquids on lacquered wood surfaces as this may cause the lacquer to delaminate.
- Weight: 60 kg
- Original design by Børge Mogensen, produced by Fredericia Furniture (1958)
