Artist and Baking Award winner Frederikke Legaard became nationally known for her wild cakes and artistic approach to pastry-making, but she can also cook insanely delicious food, as she shows in this combined cooking and baking book, which she wrote, photographed and drew herself. All at home in her own just five square metre kitchen. Frederikke has been cooking and making her own recipes since she was a little girl. Cooking is her collection of favourite dishes, cakes and desserts, peppered with personal stories, sketches and tips. She describes the book as a little encyclopaedia of little treasures that she hopes others will enjoy too.
Frederikke finds inspiration for her food and cakes both at home and out. It is on a stay abroad in New York that she perfected her doughnuts, and in Hong Kong that she learned to make the world's best dumplings, while it is from her grandmother that she learned the art of baking.
The book is divided into a sweet and a savoury section with subheadings such as Morning Baking, Cold Dishes, Hot Dishes and My Favourites. It's at once aesthetic and uncomplicated, because Frederikke knows and prioritises both. There are examples of the amazing cakes that swept Denmark when she was on screen during the Baking Contest, but also very simple recipes for quick and easy dinners. It's all accompanied by hand-drawn guides and step-by-step drawings.
