The 'Søborg' series marks a moment in the history of Danish furniture architecture, when design and modern techniques culminate and open up new dimensions of carpentry. The chair is the result of a trip to MoMa's international design competition 'Low-Cost Furniture' in 1948, where designer Børge Mogensen was introduced to moulded veneer. In 1950, the Søborg chair became a product of this new technology, and without letting go of its characteristic love for tradition, the seat was made of moulded veneer, combined with a frame in solid wood. Soft shapes interact with a nonchalant expression that, depending on the viewer's angle, is slender or full in its appearance. With well-considered proportions that ensure a comfortable seating experience, the 'Søborg' chairs are a classic in both the modern and traditional home.
- Base in lacquered and oiled oak or oiled walnut with seat and back in matching moulded plywood. Supplied with standard plastic slip-ons, with the option of felt slip-ons.
- When cleaning oiled wood, a mild solution of soap flakes or a cleaner for oil-treated wood surfaces is recommended. New oil must then be added to prevent the wood from drying out.
- For cleaning varnished wood, a mild solution of soap flakes or all-purpose cleaner is recommended. Then polish with a dry soft cloth. Never leave liquids on lacquered wood surfaces as this may cause the lacquer to delaminate.
- When cleaning soaped and treated a soft cloth, heavily wrung in a mild solution of soap flakes. Always wipe in the grain direction of the wood. Never use water on untreated wood surfaces if it can be avoided.
- Original design by Børge Mogensen, produced by Fredericia Furniture (1950)
